Tree Planting.

Order a Tree – Take a Tax Deduction

You can order a tree for the tree lawn or pit in front of your home, business (or another public area) and take a tax deduction. The Buffalo Green Fund is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and all donations to it are tax deductible.

The Buffalo Green Fund will contact the city forester, verify the condition of the planting spot (no stump, wide enough, etc.) and recommend the tree species, consistent with the Tree Master Plan. In some cases, there may be a choice. Tree species are chosen for their hardiness, resistance to drought, salt and disease, and appropriateness for your location.

The Buffalo Green Fund usually plants trees in the spring and in the fall. They are all balled and burlapped…21/2” caliper or larger. These trees are planted by the wholesale nursery and cost approximately $350. Price will vary depending on size ordered and the species.

You will be charged the actual cost of the tree and it will be entirely tax deductible. The Buffalo Green Fund is a completely volunteer organization and has very little overhead. It has been working with the city to reforest the streets since 1973.

All trees need water and the homeowner is asked to make certain that trees are watered during any dry periods. Spring trees, especially, need consistent watering in order to become established.

The Buffalo Green Fund plants trees only in the city of Buffalo. It is not part of Re-Tree, which is County-wide. Re-Tree trees are generally smaller, bare root, planted by community volunteers and free. You can also contact the city and ask to have a tree planted for free. The difference is the size of the tree and the length of the request list.

If you are interested in purchasing a tree, please contact us through email on this website or write to Buffalo Green Fund, 11 Mayfair Lane, Buffalo, NY 14201.
